A respected Academic Medical Center, located on the west coast, approached Dynafios in 2015 looking to drive both quality and cost performance in its cardiovascular program. The fragmented teaching facility was looking for an integrated services strategy to standardize clinical processes, reduce variation and drive best practices within their organization.
The Cardiovascular Service Line was:
- Fragmented into three departments: Adult Cardiology, CT Surgery, and Pediatric Cardiology. To no surprise, their Cath lab, patient units, and operating rooms were highly
- Experiencing significant cost increases over the prior 5 years
- Lacking data and transparency among physicians, students and staff
- Falling to the bottom 50%, nationally, in patient outcomes
After Year 1 of C2i implementation, the Heart Institute dramatically reduced their cost per case, improved their Case Mix Index, and saved a total of $4.5 M in direct costs. In addition, this program implanted a C2i governance structure that developed clinical standards, reduced readmissions and elevated both quality and patient satisfaction across all departments.
In Year 2, the revamped Cardiovascular Service Line looks to continue its’ healthcare management initiatives, using C2i to drive down costs and achieve top decile performance. The program has a projected savings of an additional $2M in Year 2 and a plan to reduce readmission rates by another 5%.
